Yellowing: The Color of Materiality

Stain glass and mosaic tile on paper pulp

Yellowing, a self-reflection piece portraying the mindfulness acquired through aging. Playing with the term ‘yellowing,’ meant to age and decompose; however, reinterpreted as a way of blooming and coming into oneself. Inspired by Islamic mosaics, the piece is composed of paper pulp steppingstones with inlaid stained-glass mosaics of sunflowers and geometrical patterns. The vibrant yellows, blues, and greens represent growth, tranquility, and joy of introspection. Experiments with material through the dichotomy of soft, delicate flower imagery and hard, but fragile, stained glass.
